I attended the Australian Marketing Institute - WA State Awards last night at the Scitech Planetarium. Starting with an Imax presentation on astronomy, it certainly a makes you think about how you extend boundaries and look outside the constaraints of our own "planetary" work systems.

The awards recognise those companies in WA that excell in marketing. It is not about pretty ads or funky TV commercials (though they were part of it), but about actual outcomes, what the campaign delivered and how it benefited the organisation and importantly the consumer.

Covering areas from Corporate Social Responsibility to Sponsorship, the winners had real passion for their products and services. The big winner on the night was Murdoch University, who won 6 awards across two different campaigns - congratulations, you deserved it. What made them winners? I would say passion for their product and teamwork, you could feel that they are a work "family" and really pulled together to produce some stunning results.

The WA State winners will now go to contest the National Awards to be held in Sydney on the 19th October. WA normally punches well above its weight - so good luck!

On a personal note, I was really surprised and stunned to recieve recognition from the Australian Marketing Institute for "Exemplary Service & Commitment to the Profession of Marketing" . It means a lot when it comes from your peers.
